Brian Ashton: RFU role not yet defined

Brian Ashton will not be taking charge of the RFU national academy, according to a report in England on Monday, although the RFU is still hopeful of retaining Ashton's services in one role or another.

Minutes from the RFU's annual meeting said that there was much disquiet among the members over the manner in which Ashton's dismissal from the England Head Coach's job was handled earlier this year, and that the governing body was keen to keep Ashton no board, according to the Guardian

RFU Chairman Martyn Thomas was contrite to those who expressed their concerns at the meeting and said that people had admitted failures in their dealings with the matter.

But Thomas also said that he expected Ashton would remain in the RFU's employ.

"I am very confident Brian will be remaining and will have a role within the RFU," Thomas said. An announcement is expected within a fortnight.
