Carter: 'When I've got some updated news, I'll tell you'

Crusaders and All Blacks fly-half Daniel Carter reiterated to the press on Tuesday that he has not made a decision with regards to his playing future beyond this year.

Carter dismissed weekend speculation that he had already agreed to terms with the big spending French club Toulon, saying that he was still assessing all of his options and hadn't ruled anything out.

The 26-year-old, who returned to duty for the Crusaders last weekend after being sidelined since March 28, said he would not be rushed into a decision by anyone, and would not be commenting on any of the options available to him until a final decision had been made.

"When I've got some updated news, I'll tell you all," Carter told the assembled media.

The All Black skillfully resisted all efforts by the assembled media to get him to drop any hints as to which way he might be learning, both in terms of either staying in New Zealand as opposed to heading offshore, and to how many clubs he might be entertaining thoughts of joining.

In the meantime, Carter is focusing on the weekend's upcoming South Island derby against the Highlanders in Christchurch where he could become just the fifth player in Super Rugby to surpass the 900-point barrier.

The nine points Carter contributed during last Saturday's 27-21 win over the Reds have raised his career tally to 883, just 17 shy of a barrier that has already been broken by Andrew Mehrtens (990), Matthew Burke (959), Stirling Mortlock (911) and most recently Tony Brown (902) - who achieved it by kicking a penalty goal for the Stormers last weekend.

With potentially up to three matches remaining in the 13th Crusade, it's not inconceivable that the prolific scoring Carter could move up to third on the point-scoring standings by leap-frogging both Brown and Mortlock before the season is done.
