Brave Brive down Parisians

Friday 16th May 2008

Brive's status as a Top 14 team is all but assured after they ground out an uninspiring 11-3 win over Stade Francais on Friday.

In a match littered with handling errors, Brive full-back Alexis Palisson was the lone scorer of the first half, finding an easy run-in angle from two long passes off the back of a 5m scrum.

Palisson's kicking was less impressive - he missed a sitter early in the second half to extend his team's lead, and when Lionel Beauxis slotted one shortly after to bring the scores back to 5-3, it seemed the Parisians might fight back.

But Fabrice stebanez's drop goal restored Brive's five-point advantage on the hour mark, and Maxime Petitjean stepped up at the death to deny the visitors the luxury of even a bonus point with a penalty.
